Watch as Dr. Jakob Seerup, curator at the Museum of Bornholm in Denmark, explores the fascinating story of a rare military collection! On Saturday, February 12th “The Russian Collection at the Danish Arsenal Museum” was presented as a part of our Second Saturday online lecture series.
In this lecture, the audience received in-depth overview of the amazing collection of Russian uniforms and militaria at the Royal Danish Arsenal Museum. This story involves the Russian Imperial Family and the Danish Royal Family and takes us from Saint Petersburg via Manchuria to the French Riviera and then to London, Greece and finally Copenhagen.
Throughout the presentation, Seerup references the family history of original collector Russian General Paul Goudime-Levkowitch, who was an alumnus of the prestigious Corps des Pages and had been a personal page to Tsar Alexander III. He builds on research from archival materials (some of which can be found here) and personal connections to the General’s descendants.
Watch now and learn more about a story that Seerup calls a combination of Downton Abbey and Doctor Zhivago!
The Second Saturday lecture series is supported in part with federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated to the New York State Library by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
