An in-person program with Dr. Franklin Sciacca at the Russian History Museum

This event offers a rare opportunity to explore remarkable examples of embroidery and textile-production tools from the museum’s collection, including never-before-displayed pieces. Join Frank Sciacca, emeritus professor of Russian Studies at Hamilton College, to learn how these handwoven works of art were made, what they symbolized, and what role they played in the life of a Russian village.

About the Presenter

Franklin Sciacca has lectured extensively on East Slavic folklore and Russian Orthodox iconography.

Sciacca’s ongoing research interests include the ritual function of textiles in Ukrainian folkways and the history of Pochayiv Monastery. He earned a doctorate and master’s from Columbia University and joined the faculty of Hamilton College in 1984, where he taught until his recent retirement.
