The Russian History Museum will present a new special exhibition, Mysteries and Odysseys, opening July 16, 2023. The museum is temporarily closed for exhibit installation.

The upcoming exhibition will feature recent discoveries that shed new light on museum artifacts, and will highlight noteworthy historical materials that were donated to the museum over the last five years.

Exhibited materials will include a range of remarkable objects, including:

  • Enigmatic signatures stitched inside a military banner that were revealed during restoration work
  • Strands of hair belonging to a young Nicholas II that were part of a New York State Police investigation
  • Never-before-seen photographs of Rasputin’s assassin, Felix Yusupov
  • A monumental icon that hung in the Russian State Duma before the revolution
  • Unique photographs of pioneers of Russian aviation (and their monkey mascot)
  • A parchment document signed by Catherine the Great

The exhibition will also trace the unlikely journeys of objects in the Russian History Museum’s collection, and tell the intriguing stories of their owners.
